SEND Teacher - Science

We are seeking a dedicated SEND Teacher to join our vibrant team at an 'Outstanding' special school in the Halifax area. This role is ideal for someone passionate about providing high-quality, child-centred education to pupils with a diverse range of needs (primarily SEMH, ASD & ADHD. The Science curricula will cover Entry Level through to GCSE (primary & secondary).

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging activities that facilitate active learning experiences tailored to special educational needs.
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives specific to SEND.
  • Assess and record each student’s progress, adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Manage pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as learning support assistants and therapists, to ensure that all students’ learning and health needs are met.
  • Foster a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages students to achieve their full potential.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to support them in fostering their children’s learning and development at home.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a focus on special educational needs/Science.
  • Experience in teaching or working with children with SEND.
  • Strong understanding of the strategies needed to establish a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for pupils with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teaching staff, professionals, and parents.
  • Patience, creativity, and flexibility to adapt to varying needs of students.
