A Rhondda Secondary Site has set up a small classroom of 7 pupils who have particularly struggled to keep up with their school work and behavioural progress over closures, lockdown and shielding. The class is not expected to see them advance greatly in terms of academic success, however because of the nature of their home lives, the school want to encourage them to come to the class as much as possible.

The pupils are age 14-17 and have been described as 'challenging but loyal', essentially once you have built trust and rapport with them, they will want to make sure you are a consistent part of their lives and a role model they can rely on and look up to
The provision is set up in a community leisure centre as the kids struggle in mainstream school environments. As a result, there is a more casual atmosphere where you are not expected to discipline the pupils or lecture them. Preferably, you will help them talk through their issues and provide a safe place for them to escape to everyday.
Although there is a class teacher present, you will be expected to cover for certain lessons. Work will already be set but you will be responsible for regulating behaviour and ensuring safety measures are adhered to.
