Job Purpose

You will effectively oversee all aspects of our flagship MRF, Transfer Station, Yard and bulk collections operation, with the requirement to lead the depot-based team, cultivating an environment where continuous improvement is the norm, not the exception.

You will ensure that production/recovery targets are met, with a focus on lean methodology to drive the performance of the MRF operation.

You will be passionate about driving Health, Safety and Compliance standards across all areas of the site.

Key Responsibilities

* Maintain compliance with environmental permit(s), licences and associated regulations and guidance, to ensure positive relationships with the HSE and Environment Agency, Defra and our neighbours whilst maintaining commercial viability, including but not limited to inspecting and monitoring incoming waste.

* Drive compliance of Health & Safety, Environmental, Employment legislation and Company policy to ensure defined standards and best practices are adhered to consistently by the site team.

* Provide strong leadership to the team setting clear performance standards, coaching, training and developing and motivating to meet set targets as well as being visible within the site operations.

* Define and support the development of the depot-based staff by identifying and sharing best practice

* Oversee maintenance of the site, plant and equipment to company or supplier specifications.

* Deliver customer service excellence through reviewing site bookings, ensuring that the site has sufficient capacity, labour, and resources to meet the requirements.

* Work with existing and sourcing new suppliers to aid the operation of the site and development of recycling/disposal options delivering profitability.

* Drive positive growth of the site P&L through working with the Commercial Team and Materials Recycling Manager and building and owning local customer relations on key accounts, whilst delivering on budgetary targets, by reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

* Ensure that all KPI's are met, working towards continuous improvement activity and reduction of downtime.

* Identify opportunities to reduce costs and enhance efficiency within the facility.

* Prepare the facility for site visits and escort visitors around the site as required.

* Participate where appropriate in the management of drivers by presenting safety meetings, completing audits etc., ensuring that their performance meets the required standards.

* Oversee all aspects of driver administration, including payroll, holidays, sickness absence, disciplinary action and all operational paperwork.

* Ensure all driver incidents and accidents are investigated promptly and that detailed reports, which include recommended follow-up action to prevent recurrence are produced.

* Maximise driver and fleet resource in the most cost-effective way and provide justification for any increased costs over budget.

* Ensure driver and vehicle compliance in accordance with current legislation.

* Ensure that all non-conformances and queries raised are responded to quickly and effectively so that root causes and corrective actions are recorded and implemented.

* Oversee a smooth and efficient service delivery to ensure that customer needs and targets are consistently met.

* Oversee customer complaints to ensure satisfactory resolutions and that creation of action plans are implemented where necessary. Conclude complex and escalated customer service issues
