Building Inspector (Class 2F)

Service: LABC Building Control

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Class 2F Registered Building Inspector to join the LABC team of a London Local Authority. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a high-quality, impartial building control service across domestic and lower-risk non-domestic projects.

You will manage a varied caseload of building regulation applications from pre-application through to completion, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation. The role involves a mix of plan assessment, site inspections, and providing expert technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage building regulation applications within Class 2F scope, including full plans, building notices and regularisations
  • Assess plans and specifications for compliance with legislation and statutory guidance
  • Carry out site inspections, ensuring construction meets required standards for safety, accessibility and sustainability
  • Provide clear technical advice to applicants, contractors and the public
  • Investigate unauthorised works and support enforcement where required
  • Assist with dangerous structures assessments and emergency response duties
  • Prepare statutory notices, reports and completion certificates
  • Maintain accurate records in line with regulatory and operational standards
  • Contribute to service improvement and performance monitoring initiatives

About You

  • Registered as a Class 2F Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator
  • Relevant qualification in construction or the built environment (e.g. HNC/HND, degree) or membership of a professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, Approved Documents and associated legislation
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act framework and regulatory environment
  • Ability to provide clear, practical technical advice and manage competing priorities
  • Proven experience in plan checking and site inspections within a building control environment
  • Experience managing a caseload and meeting statutory deadlines
