Family Solicitor - Portsmouth
Well-Established South Coast Law Firm

A respected and long-standing law firm on the South Coast is seeking a capable and client-focused Family Solicitor to join its busy and expanding Family Law department in Portsmouth.

This is a key appointment for a solicitor with a minimum of 1 year's PQE, offering the opportunity to take ownership of a varied private family law caseload, while contributing to the development and growth of the team.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a wide range of privately funded family matters, including:

• Divorce and financial remedy proceedings
• Private children law matters
• Separation and cohabitation agreements
• Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
• Domestic abuse cases and injunctions

The role will involve managing files independently from initial instruction to conclusion, as well as engaging in client meetings (in-person and remotely), court attendances, and liaising with third parties such as barristers, mediators, and other professionals.

There is also a strong emphasis on business development, with the successful candidate expected to support marketing initiatives, help grow the department and develop cross-referral opportunities internally.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

• Qualified solicitor or legal executive with at least 1 year's PQE in family law
• Strong working knowledge of divorce, children, and financial remedy matters
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work independently and manage a full caseload
• Confident using legal software and case management systems
• A proactive, client-focused approach and a willingness to support the growth of the department

Desirable:

• Experience using DPS or similar case management systems
• Previous work in a high street or general practice environment
• A confident networker with an interest in marketing and client development
• Familiarity with Lexcel and SRA compliance standards
