Executive Director of EstatesA high-performing, values-driven education trust in the North of England is seeking an exceptionalExecutive Director of Estates and Risk to lead the strategic direction of its multi-site estate. With responsibility for over 30 academies across fourteen local authority areas, this role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver a long-term estates strategy that directly enhances the learning environment and outcomes of thousands of children and young people.
The RoleWorking closely with the Chief Executive Officer and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will:
- Lead the strategic development, maintenance, safety and security of all buildings, grounds, facilities and infrastructure.
- Oversee and deliver major capital projects, ensuring high-quality, compliant and value-for-money outcomes.
- Strengthen governance, estates compliance and statutory Health & Safety across all sites.
- Act as the organisation’s lead competent person for building safety, CDM regulations, asbestos management, fire safety, legionella and wider compliance.
- Ensure robust estate-wide processes for risk management, asset maintenance and emergency response.
- Drive consistency of estates and facilities management systems across all academies.
- Manage central estates staff and support site-based teams, fostering high performance and continuous improvement.
- Provide clear, accurate reporting to senior leaders, trustees and regulatory bodies.
About youYou will be a highly credible estates professional with:
- A relevant qualification in estates/facilities management, surveying or a technical discipline.
- Significant senior-level experience overseeing a large, diverse, multi-site estate.
- Extensive knowledge of statutory compliance, safety legislation and complex regulatory frameworks.
- A strong track record in capital project delivery, budget management and contractor procurement.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
- The ability to work at pace, manage competing priorities and maintain calm, solutions-focused leadership.
Project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2), professional body membership (e.g. RICS, IWFM, CIOB) and experience within regulated or educational environments are advantageous.
