Management Accountant | Insurance Industry | Hybrid Working
A technically rich role within a profitable, regulated insurance business offering genuinely flexible, hybrid working.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Management Accountant or Financial Accountant to step into a high-profile, technically demanding role within a successful and well-established insurance business.
Operating in a regulated environment, this organisation combines commercial focus with strong financial discipline. Finance is central to decision-making and governance, and this role sits at the heart of period-end delivery, balance sheet integrity, statutory reporting and regulatory compliance.
If you enjoy technical accounting, thrive in deadline-driven environments and take pride in quality, accuracy and control, this role offers both challenge and progression in equal measure.
The Role:
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will be a key member of a high-calibre finance team, taking ownership of financial period-end, management accounting, statutory accounts and regulatory reporting.
This is a hands-on role, suited to someone who enjoys getting into the detail, understands the importance of strong controls, and can also step back to provide clear insight and analysis to senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full ownership of monthly management accounts, ensuring timely, accurate delivery with high-quality variance analysis and commentary
- Maintaining robust balance sheet control, including preparation and review of reconciliations to a high standard
- Leading the annual statutory accounts process and acting as the primary contact for external auditors
- Preparation and submission of regulatory reporting (including FCA returns), ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness
- Monitoring regulatory capital and liquidity positions and escalating risks appropriately
- Supporting internal and external audits with clear analysis and documentation
- Driving continuous improvement across accounting and reporting processes, including automation and streamlining
- Building strong relationships across finance, the wider business and external partners
About You:
This role will suit an accountant who combines technical strength with commercial awareness and a positive, proactive mindset.
You are likely to be:
- CIMA / ACA / ACCA qualified or finalist, with a strong technical grounding
- Experienced in management accounts, balance sheet ownership and variance analysis
- Confident preparing statutory financial statements and working with external auditors
- From an insurance or financial services background (strongly preferred)
- Comfortable working in a controlled, regulated environment
- Technically curious, with a genuine interest in accounting standards, judgement areas and best practice
- Highly organised, articulate and able to manage competing deadlines calmly and effectively
Experience with ERP systems (ideally SAP), strong Excel skills and exposure to large datasets or reporting tools will be advantageous.
Why This Role?
- £65k - £75k + benefits package
- Profitable, well-run insurance business with a strong control environment
- A role with real technical depth and ownership
- High visibility within finance and exposure to senior stakeholders
- A culture that values quality, integrity and continuous improvement
- Very flexible, hybrid working designed around performance, not presenteeism
- An environment suited to high-performing, intellectually curious accountants
If you are looking for a role where your technical skills will be stretched, your judgement trusted, and your contribution genuinely valued, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
