Teaching Assistant - Year 1 (SEND & Personal Care Support)
Location: Saltley, Birmingham
Position Type: Full-Time | Term Time Only (Monday to Friday, 8:30AM - 3:30PM)
Start Date: September 2025
Pay Rate: Negotiable (Dependent on Experience)
Contract Type: Long-Term, with potential to extend or become permanent

Are you a nurturing and resilient Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?
Prospero Teaching is seeking two dedicated Teaching Assistants to work in a Year 1 setting at a caring and inclusive primary school in Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a small number of pupils with complex learning and communication needs, some of whom require personal care.

About the Role:
· Support pupils in split sessions across the day:
- TA 1: Supports two pupils in the morning, one in the afternoon
- TA 2: Supports one pupil in the morning, two in the afternoon
· Pupils have a range of needs, including pre-verbal communication and personal care (nappy changing)
· One child communicates verbally (on her own terms); the others are primarily pre-verbal
· Visual aids and consistent routines are key to success
· One pupil has a history of absconding, now well-managed through firm boundaries and teamwork
· You will work alongside another TA or member of staff at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:
· Nurturing, patient, and calm, with a child-centred approach
· Experienced in supporting pupils with communication difficulties, ASD, or other complex needs
· Comfortable providing personal care as part of the daily routine
· A strong team player, able to communicate effectively with staff and support professionals

Essential Requirements:
· Right to Work in the UK
· Experience supporting pupils with SEND in EYFS or KS1
· A valid Enhanced Child Barred List DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
· Two recent, child-related professional references (covering the last two years
