Join the Highways Service at Manchester City Council, where you can leverage your CAD skills and technical knowledge in a dynamic environment. This role offers the opportunity to work on significant projects that align with the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 and National Transport Strategies. As a CAD Technician in our Engineering Design Team, you will contribute to the design and implementation of various highway and traffic engineering schemes, enhancing the city's infrastructure and supporting sustainable transport solutions.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Developing Designs: Work on various highways schemes including walking and cycling schemes, bus priority proposals, congestion management, and road safety proposals.
  • Creating and Modifying Drawings: Utilize AutoCAD to produce detailed plans, sections, and elevations for highway projects.
  • Ensuring Accuracy and Quality: Check drawings for errors and inconsistencies, ensuring they meet relevant standards and specifications.
  • Collaborating with Professionals: Work alongside engineers, designers, and other team members to develop and refine designs.
  • Assisting with Site Surveys: Contribute to the collection of survey data and site information.
  • Maintaining Project Documentation: Keep accurate records of drawings, revisions, and other project-related information.
  • Contributing to Project Meetings: Participate in project meetings and provide technical input.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD: Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD software is essential for creating and editing drawings.
  • Understanding of Highway Design Principles: Familiarity with the principles of highway design, including road geometry, drainage, and traffic management.
  • Knowledge of Relevant Standards and Regulations: Understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations for highway design.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to absorb, understand, and assimilate complex information, comparing data from various sources.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to transfer key information to all levels of staff, adapting the style as necessary.
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Ability to analyze situations, diagnose problems, and produce logical, practical solutions.
  • Creative Skills: Ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions to problems.
