Our N. Kesteven based client has been established for more than half a century and are market leaders in the formulation, development and manufacture of animal feed solutions for customers throughout the UK, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Operations First Line Manager to complement their professional manufacturing team.

Reporting to the Mill Manager and typically working on a Monday to Friday basis (although there may be the occasional requirement to provide support on a weekend), the successful Operations First Line Manager candidate will lead the mill team in carrying out the efficient operation of all aspects of the feed mill production system, ensuring all relevant Health & Safety and quality control procedures relating to the production of compound animal feed are adhered to in order to deliver required business objectives and deputising for the Mill Manager as required.

Tasked with both leading and implementing H&S policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and aligned to best practices, you will drive consistently excellent performance to deliver KPI's for Safety, Quality, Service and Cost. You will be responsible for core decision making activities during day-to-day activities, escalating complex matters to the mill management team where necessary and leading the daily production meetings. You will promote an inclusive culture, focussing on employee engagement in order to deliver business objectives and will also support the mill in compliance matters, completing and updating the compliance calendar including information relating to H&S and Environmental factors, and leading in audit standards whilst ensuring corrective processes are in place to address non-conformances as they may arise.

Other duties will include creating and managing formulated spreadsheets for production and maintenance reviews and ensuring that all raw material requirements are met by supporting stock takes and accurately completing associated documentation, proactively seeking solutions where abnormalities occur to prevent a negative impact on production and quality standards. As an experience manager you will be responsible for managing team performance, setting targets and undertaking regular appraisals, as well as dealing with absence, capability and disciplinary matters as appropriate. You will essentially demonstrate flexibility to work alternative shift patterns as required and will assist in co-ordinating the activities of workers and the daily operation of the feed mill, involving daily stock takes and the completion of statutory records and production sheets.

Able to assess requirements and co-ordinate with other operational areas to allocate resources to meet changing business and customer needs, you will liaise closely with the Engineering department to address breakdowns or interruptions to production to minimise downtime and where required, conduct basic level routine maintenance and assist the engineering team where possible in ongoing continuous improvement activities as well as ensuring the environment is safe and clean to prevent a negative impact on quality standards.

To be considered for this varied and challenging Operations First Line Manager role it is envisaged that the successful candidate will possess a solid academic background with a relevant management qualification and ideally qualifications or an Apprenticeship served in a relevant field preferred. With strong experience of managing a team based lean manufacturing/production environment and working with strict safety and quality control procedures and KPI's, you will possess excellent communication skills at all levels and the ability to develop strong teams committed to continuous improvement.
