Assistant Finance Officer - Pay Ratey: £12.60 to £15.08 per hour via PAYE depending on experience
- Location: Sheffield, Remote (one day per month) with initial training in-office (one day per week for 6 weeks)

Join our council's finance team as an Assistant Finance Officer, where you will play a crucial role in managing incoming payments, ensuring accurate payment allocations, and supporting customers with their financial queries. This position offers a mostly remote working setup, with initial training conducted in-office.
Day-to-day of the role: - Income Management: Handle incoming payments such as council tax and enforcement fines, ensuring they are allocated to the correct accounts.
- Payment Allocation: Investigate payments without clear references and allocate them appropriately to avoid financial discrepancies.
- Suspense Accounts Management: Manage payments held in suspense accounts while coordinating reminders and recovery actions.
- Customer Interaction: Engage with customers, particularly those with outstanding low debts, to offer payment solutions and resolve account holds.
- Refunds Processing: Handle the processing of necessary refunds efficiently.
- Direct Debits: Oversee and resolve issues related to Direct Debit collections.
- Team Support: Collaborate with team members in a busy environment, showing flexibility and a commitment to collective goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications: - Experience: Prior experience in customer service is required as well as, finance, accounts receivable, banking, or mortgage sectors or similar.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with financial software.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for dealing with customer queries and internal communications.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Adaptability: Must be flexible and open to changes in a dynamic work environment.
