About the Role
As a Class 1 Shunter, you will:
- Collect and transport vehicles and trailers to and from the Whitland workshop for scheduled inspections, servicing, MOT preparation, and repair work across the West Wales fleet.
- Deliver vehicles and trailers to designated MOT testing centres as required and return them promptly following completion of testing, inspections, or maintenance activities.
- Collect and return vehicles and trailers following inspections or service repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to fleet availability and operational schedules.
- Collect parts, equipment, and materials as required to support workshop operations, maintaining continuity of service and reducing vehicle downtime.
- Wash, steam-clean, and prepare trucks and trailers to a high standard prior to workshop entry, ensuring vehicles meet cleanliness, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain the Whitland yard, including general tidiness, litter picking, basic housekeeping, and always ensuring a safe working environment.
- Safely manoeuvre and position vehicles and trailers within the yard and workshop areas in line with site procedures and health and safety guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with Workshop and Milk Operations teams, providing timely updates and supporting smooth, efficient operational workflows.
- Attend and participate in regular training sessions to remain up to date with industry standards, compliance requirements, and best working practices, continually developing knowledge and skills.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Must hold a UK Class 1 CE Licence.
- Current DCPC Card and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
- Safety focused and able to follow all site and yard procedures.
- Confident in shunting, reversing, and positioning trailers accurately.
- Reliable and able to work to time‑critical schedules.
- Professional, approachable, and a strong team player.
- Good awareness of yard layout and safe vehicle movements.
- Fit, hardworking, adaptable, and willing to support general yard duties.
