About Us:
At Birchwood School, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every young person can thrive. We work with children and young people who may have experienced trauma, social and emotional challenges, or barriers to learning, and we are passionate about helping them build resilience, confidence, and brighter futures.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Behavioural Lead to join our dedicated team. You will be responsible for leading on behaviour management strategies across our services, supporting both staff and young people in creating positive, safe, and structured environments. Working closely with the care and education teams, you will develop and implement approaches that reduce challenging behaviour and promote positive engagement, resilience, and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the design and delivery of behaviour management strategies and interventions.

  • Support and coach staff in managing challenging behaviour safely and effectively.

  • Conduct assessments and contribute to individual behaviour support plans.

  • Work directly with children and young people to develop self-regulation, problem-solving, and positive coping skills.

  • Monitor behavioural incidents and analyse trends to inform proactive interventions.

  • Collaborate with families, schools, and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach.

  • Ensure all practice is aligned with safeguarding and child protection procedures.

  • Promote a culture of respect, positive relationships, and restorative practice.

About You:

  • Experience in a senior or lead role supporting children and young people with behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.

  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management approaches and trauma-informed practice.

  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and resilient in challenging situations.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and relevant legislation.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 4/5 in Health & Social Care, Childcare, Youth Work, Behavioural Support, or equivalent) are highly desirable.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.

  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

Birchwood Children's Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, identity and qualification checks, and satisfactory references.
