An established organisation based in Basingstoke is seeking an experienced Buyer / Supply Chain Planner to manage and coordinate a high-value materials programme within a complex, deadline-driven operational environment. This role is crucial for ensuring continuity of supply, optimising inventory levels, and collaborating with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support production and planning requirements.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage the sourcing and planning of critical raw materials in line with agreed supply strategies.
- Control inventory levels against forecast demand, ensuring materials are available to meet production plans.
- Place and manage purchase orders, maintaining accurate delivery commitments within the ERP system.
- Lead supplier quotation processes, including analysis and commercial recommendations.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitoring performance through KPIs.
- Conduct supplier reviews and lead commercial discussions around pricing and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with logistics and planning teams to align shipping plans and production requirements.
- Support internal stakeholders by providing market insight, capacity visibility, and risk awareness.
- Maintain accurate documentation, supplier data, and material records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and supply chain resilience initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a buying, planning, or supply chain role.
- Strong understanding of forecasting, inventory control, and supplier management.
- Confident using ERP/MRP systems (SAP advantageous).
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Able to work calmly in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communicator, comfortable engaging with suppliers and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to balance cost, quality, and availability.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
- CIPS qualification desirable but not essential.
