Offering a competitive rate of pay, a friendly and dynamic working environment, a variety of excellent company benefits and bonus scheme, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Depot Manager to take full ownership and responsibility for the Transport & Warehouse operations at our St Neots depot.

H&M Distribution are a well-respected distribution company that were formed in January 2007, offering first-class transport and warehousing services. H&M St Neots are a Palletways member and deliver circa 400 pallets per day for Palletways members. We also have our own customer base of and deliver circa 250 pallets per day into the network.


Role Responsibilities - Depot Manager:

Being a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for managing 5 office staff, 5 warehouse staff and 24 drivers, as well as the legal compliance of 17 vehicles and 13 trailers. Duties include:

  • Leading the depot, ensuring the day to day operation runs efficiently, is safe and is legally compliant
  • Ensuring the daily multi drop deliveries and night trunking plans are completed in real time, managing resources effectively, maximizing revenue whilst minimizing costs and ensuring customer expectations are consistently met
  • Adapting between working in the detail and working at a high level to see the 'bigger picture', ensuring there is a key focus on planning loads and routes that are the most commercially beneficial to the business
  • Monitoring variances to budgeted labour, vehicles costs, pallet downsizing, general haulage, and sub-contractor revenue
  • Reviewing planning, KPI performance and Profit & Loss, proactively assessing and reporting on trends and variances to daily planning targets and budget
  • Demonstrating proactive leadership and adhering to the H&M Distribution Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Management systems
  • Measuring and analysing all data on key aspects of driver performance, tachograph compliance via Webfleet data, compliance with the palletways KPI's on ETA's and POD's


Person Specification - Depot Manager:

  • 5+ years' experience in leading and developing a transport & warehouse team is essential
  • You must be a National CPC Holder
  • Natural communicator and leader
  • Personable and able to resolve complex issues calmly  
  • UK based with a flexible approach to working hours
  • Good team working skills
  • Able to comfortably organise own work
  • Ability to prioritise large volumes of demands and tasks
  • Ability to influence and instil confidence with all levels of management
  • PC literate with a good understanding of Microsoft excel
  • Previous planning systems experience
