In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist the Senior Legal Counsel (Contracts) acting as one of the primary legal advisers to the Group on all commercial contracts entered into by the Group, including new contracts, renewals, terminations, amendments and disputes. This role is also one of the primary legal advisers on Group intellectual property, legal horizon scanning and legal disputes.

Your responsibilities will include…

  • Shared primary responsibility for advising on all commercial contracts entered into by the Group across the entire contract lifecycle.
  • Assisting with the provision of advice, assistance and training for stakeholders in the Group in relation to contracts and vendor management / outsourcing policies, procedures and processes and projects involving large scale contract negotiations / remediations.
  • Shared primary responsibility for coordinating the Legal team's Horizon Scanning activities in this area.
  • Shared responsibility for legal advice on the Group Intellectual Property portfolio, primarily trade mark strategy including registrations, renewals and disputes.
  • Shared responsibility within the Legal team advising on disputes, particularly threatened/actual consumer litigation against the Group.
  • Input on proposing and adhering to budget, and developing and refining external law firm relationship/retainer(s), for procuring best value / quality legal advice to the Group in these areas.
  • Refine and improve the Legal service offering to these business areas via proposing and implementing efficiencies, self-help and training.
  • Ensuring legal risk in the Group is adequately identified, mitigated and reported.

We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below:

  • 0-1 PQE qualified solicitor of England and Wales.
  • Experience advising on legal contractual and commercial issues.
  • Previous experience gained as a paralegal and/or legal trainee in-house or in private practice is desirable.
  • Ideally in-house legal and/or governance/Company Secretariat experience in retail banking.

We offer a base salary dependent on experience of between £53,000 to £65,000 and a competitive benefits package including:
