Security Manager - Cyber Operations

Hybrid Derby office and working from home (office attendance minimum once a month)

About the role
This is a hands on leadership role at the heart of MAB's cyber defence. You'll take ownership of day to day Cyber Operations, leading a small, highly skilled engineering and protective monitoring team to detect, investigate and respond to cyber threats quickly and effectively. The role oversees threat hunting and incident response activities, manages key supplier relationships, and ensures security events are driven through to remediation within agreed SLAs. Alongside this, you'll develop people, processes and tooling to continuously strengthen MAB's security maturity, while confidently translating technical risk into meaningful business impact when engaging with senior stakeholders.

 

What you'll be doing
In this role you will be responsible for leading and delivering effective Cyber Operations across MAB, ensuring the team meets its objectives while maintaining strong detection, response and remediation capabilities. You'll oversee proactive threat hunting and incident management, ensuring security events are investigated and resolved within agreed SLAs. Acting as a key point of escalation, you'll translate technical risk for senior leaders, support delivery of the cyber strategy, and manage the MSSP through KPI and KRI oversight. You'll also drive continuous improvement through the development of use cases, playbooks and tooling, ensuring cyber controls are well‑monitored and operating within expected detection timeframes.

About You

• You are a self‑starting cyber leader with proven experience coaching and leading deeply technical security teams in high pressure environments.
• You are a strong communicator and stakeholder manager, confident presenting to senior leaders and deputising for the Head of Information Security.
• You have hands on cyber expertise, including threat hunting, detection engineering, protective monitoring and incident response (forensics knowledge would be an advantage).
• You are experienced in regulated environments, with a strong focus on performance monitoring (KPIs/KRIs), security qualifications, and resilience during live incidents.
