Customs Clerk - Burntwood - Up to £30,000

Our client, who are based in Burntwood are looking for a Customs Clerk to join their team. As Customs Clerk, you will be tasked to process customs clearances for air, sea, and road shipments-both import and export. Ensure accurate documentation, timely updates, and smooth movement of goods.

Hours: Monday to Friday - 08:30 - 17:30

Salary: Up to £30,000

Main Duties

Manage customs clearances for a range of customers across all transport modes.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
Provide excellent customer service to encourage repeat business.
Monitor and manage a shared inbox, ensuring enquiries are handled efficiently.
Check and verify customer documentation; resolve any errors or missing information.
Complete customs declarations accurately using internal transport and customs systems.
Escalate issues when required.
Support key account management and contribute to client growth.

Key Responsibilities

Calculate and process duties, taxes, and customs clearances.
Issue correct documentation to ensure shipments are cleared quickly and correctly.
Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, customs brokers, and customers to coordinate clearances.
Maintain strong knowledge of customs laws, procedures, and restrictions, advising customers when needed.
Communicate with all relevant parties (customers, freight forwarders, importers/exporters, government agencies).
Keep stakeholders updated on declaration progress, VAT/duty payments, and any issues that may delay shipments.
Work efficiently under pressure and within deadlines, using your initiative and maintaining a flexible approach.

Skills & Experience

Solid customs knowledge (imports, exports, declarations, procedures).
Familiarity with systems such as NCTS, CDS, and Destin8 is beneficial.
Understanding of UK/EU customs requirements and documentation.
Good awareness of freight industry operations and incoterms.
