The Heatherley School of Fine Art is seeking two part-time Administrative Assistants to join our administrative team at the School, this could perhaps become one role for someone interested in working longer hours.
Founded in 1845, Heatherleys is one of the oldest independent art colleges in Britain and among the few that focus on portraiture, figurative painting and sculpture. We offer vocational and part time courses to students who are 19 years of age and over.
Position 1 : Part-time: Monday to Friday 9.00am to 12.00pm
Position 2 : Part-time: Friday & Saturday 9.00am to 5.00pm
Salary: £10,920 p.a. (£14.00 per hour) equivalent to FTE £27,300 p.a.
Location: London SW10
Holiday: 28 days per year pro rata (includes Bank Holidays)
Responsible to: The Principal
Start date: March/April 2026
Purpose of the role: To support the office administration of The Heatherley School of Fine Art.
Principal Functions and Responsibilities
- Opening of building and office in the morning
- Closing and locking of building if working until 5.00pm
- Greet visitors and assist with enquiries
- Manage incoming calls, emails and general enquiries
- Provide day-to-day administrative support across the school
- Assist tutors with their requests
- Processing course applications
- Prepare enrolments and class registers.
- Prepare files for tutors at the beginning of each term.
- Assist with finding replacement staff i.e. tutors and models in the event that they are unable to attend their respective class.
- Alert or contact the correct person if there are building maintenance issues.
The Shop
- Assist in art shop
- Monitor stock levels
- Order shop materials when necessary
This list is not exhaustive and may be added to or adjusted as required and at the discretion of the Principal.
Essential Experience
- Recent experience in working with members of the public.
- Recent experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working in the art world or in an educational setting.
- Experience of working in a shop.
Essential skills
- Good time keeping.
- Possess excellent communication skills, be articulate, have good verbal and written English and good numeracy.
- Be adaptable and flexible, able to respond, collaborate and work well with others within a small but energetic staff team.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Be able to relate to and support staff and students within the school and to respond. to enquiries from students and members of the public with patience and discretion.
- Good organisational abilities, possess initiative and have excellent time management ability.
