Position: Preparation Engineer
Reports to: Preparation Engineering Manager
Location: Units 8 & 9 The Brunel Centre, Newton Road, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 9TU

Purpose of role

The Preparation Engineer works with a team of other engineers to deliver a smooth and efficient preparation and maintenance service to a broad spectrum of broadcasting clients.

Key responsibilities

Preparing, installing and ensuring the smooth operation of broadcasting equipment as required.
Maintaining all equipment within the Dry Hire section and other sections as required.
Preparing stock for customers ensuring correct configuration and high standards of presentation.
Assisting other sections of the Engineering department when required.
Interfacing with Hire Desk team, warehouse staff, other engineering sections and project co-ordinators to ensure equipment is prepared and configured in good time to meet demand.
Complying with all relevant Health and Safety rules and guidelines.
Have a thorough understanding of the inventory, be able to give advice on the best solutions for hire and projects and resolving equipment allocation conflicts.
Helping to ensure working area is tidy, organised and maintained to a high standard.
Organising work load effectively and maintaining records as required.
Using R2 (booking system) effectively and ensure good and detailed information flow between sections.
Being a point of reference for technical issues liaising with clients when necessary.
Acting as an ambassador for the Company at all times, especially if on location, offering a high level of skills, knowledge and understanding, delivering solutions to a high standard with client satisfaction at the root of all decisions.

Person specification


Understanding of Broadcast technology - cameras, lenses, recording devices, audio equipment etc.
Understanding of OB systems and their implementation in the broadcast environment.
Highly self motivated.
Ability to gain a thorough understanding of the systems being deployed by Presteigne.
Ability to present information in a clear and precise manner.
Be a good communicator.
Be highly IT literate with good understanding of all software used.
Be very well organised.
Be able to remain calm under pressure maintaining a positive, "can-do" attitude.
Be able to use R2 effectively and able to ensure all activities are correctly recorded.
Willingness to travel and spend extended periods away from base.
Be personable and fit into a close knit, collaborative team.


Degree or equivalent level qualification in relevant subject.
High level of industry knowledge.
Experience of broadcasting systems and their implementation in the broadcast environment.
Experience with Broadcast technology - cameras, lenses, recording devices, audio equipment.
Strong commercial awareness and appreciation of the technical markets associated with the broadcasting market.

Special Conditions

The role works on a shift basis between 08:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday and will be 'on-call' 24/7 service on some weekends. Potential occasional work in the field, including overseas.
