Spinnaker seeks a Claims Manager to lead and be accountable for providing oversight to third-party claims administrators engaged by Spinnaker and, within established authorities, manage corporate claims process, including reserving and strategy. The ideal candidate will continuously improve existing processes and procedures; and will be instrumental in helping build the claims organizational infrastructure to support the next phase of Spinnaker’s growth. The position reports directly to the General Counsel and is a full-time exempt position in our Bedminster, New Jersey corporate headquarters. Accountabilities Review and Manage Significant Claims and Large Losses Influence claims outcomes by providing strategic and substantive advice Set and approve reserves and payments within authority or escalate internally as appropriate Track and report to executive leadership on largest risks via roundtables Ensure significant exposures are timely recognized, adjusted, and reserved Manage Day-to-Day TPA Relationships Develop and enforce best practices as respects on-boarding and monitoring TPAs Lead ad-hoc audits of claims files (remote and on-site; in-house or vendor driven) Support and, in some instances, lead on-site operational audits of TPAs Vet and approve all vendor selections (e.g., independent adjusters, engineers) Enforce cost containment initiatives and minimize unnecessary costs Develop and Manage Essential Claims-Centric Processes Support claims-driven compliance and data-reporting processes Produce and maintain spreadsheets, bordereaux and databases to enhance data presentation, analysis, and storage Present to executive leadership team on claims matter, including reserve trends, IBNR, and TPA compliance issues Support reinsurance claims presentations and aggregate reporting when necessary Develop and Implement Catastrophe Response Plan to ensure TPA readiness, including adequate field resources and cat resources; develop Spinnaker-specific cat response plans Coordinate SIU/Fraud program in conjunction with TPAs and service providers Qualifications Experience across diverse lines of business, including property (commercial and homeowners), casualty, and specialty is essential Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university 5 years in the property & casualty insurance industry in a claims or legal role Understanding of best practices as respects reserving and claims organizational management Strong communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and negotiation skills. Able to communicate and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels of sophistication. Collaborative approach: Develop productive working relationships with insured, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters and legal counsel. Seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible. Capable of working and collaborating with a virtual team. Strong ethics: Handle responsibilities with integrity and the highest standards of professionalism. Passion for results: Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs.
