This position offers strong career development potential within a supportive and forward-thinking team environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of engineering and automation projects from initial brief through to completion.
- Oversee automation systems and software updates, particularly Siemens S7, STEP 7, and Simatic.

- Conduct root cause analysis and implement continuous improvements to increase OEE and site performance.
- Manage obsolescence of critical control systems including PLCs, inverters, and instrumentation.
- Own and maintain the site panel risk register and carry out routine system health checks.
- Support the implementation of smart factory initiatives and data-driven reliability systems.
- Contribute to the development of SOPs and engineering standards across the site.
- Provide reactive support and coach other engineers in automation and maintenance best practices.
- Coordinate external contractors and ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Skills Required:
- Proven experience delivering engineering and automation projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Siemens control systems and automation software.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues independently and effectively.
- Experience in performance data analysis and using insights to drive improvements.
- Skilled in managing multiple stakeholders, including OEMs and suppliers.
- Clear communication skills and ability to train and support engineering colleagues.
Desirables:
- Familiarity with smart factory technologies or condition-based maintenance tools.
- Competence with CAD software and experience contributing to layout planning.
- Understanding of Health & Safety regulations in relation to installations and upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or ONC/HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Alternatively, a relevant Engineering Degree or minimum Level 3 City & Guilds with at least 5 years' experience in a similar role.
- Experience working within a maintenance-led, high-speed manufacturing environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking engineer to take ownership of automation development and play a key role in shaping the future of the site's engineering performance.
