Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Finance Analyst for our client a local government organisation in Southampton.

The successful candidate will support senior finance staff in providing strategic financial advice to the organisation. This will include the provision of business modelling, analysis of financial risk and financial management information in support of strong financial performance.

The post provides insightful analysis and options appraisals across the whole organisation, creating and monitoring KPIs across financial and performance data supporting operational, tactical and strategic decision making. The role is to perform financial analysis to understand the story and communicate this clearly to Finance Business Partners and budget holders.

This role is a 3 month contract with the possibility to extend. This role is hybrid working.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Provide support to the Finance Business Partnering function and the Corporate Planning and Commercialisation function across the whole of the organisation.
  • Build effective working relationships with other financial analysts to ensure the Council’s financial plans are aligned across the team and best practice is shared.
  • Preparation of financial and performance reporting analysis to identify key insights and value chains in front line services.
  • Perform research, benchmarking and analysis to compare performance and KPIs across the organisation, sector and wider economic environment.
  • Analyse risks and opportunities for the Council and provide briefings of the findings to members of the finance department and budget holders.
  • Monitor the performance of budget holders in their duties through the use of analytical techniques and reasoning.
  • Analyse the impact of reports, policies and procedures relating to their area.

Personal Requirements:

  • An advanced Excel user and with a high degree of systems literacy generally.
  • An understanding of statistical techniques to derive insights and to increase the accuracy of forecasts.
  • An understanding of investment appraisal techniques and ability to evaluate options.
  • Experience of providing a financial management service to budget holders.
  • Experience of compiling budgets and forecasts.
  • Ability to constructively challenge finance staff on financial and performance matters.

Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday to Friday

Pay: £26.63 per hr
