A specialist SEMH school in Cumbria is looking for Youth Workers to join their dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students aged 11-16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

The role is ideal for individuals with a background in youth work, behaviour mentoring, or support work who are looking to transition into education - or continue making an impact in a school-based setting.

About the School:

The school provides a structured and nurturing learning environment for pupils with SEMH needs, many of whom may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or difficulties in mainstream settings. Staff work collaboratively to build trust, routine, and resilience in their students, helping them re-engage with learning and build life skills.

The Role:

As a Youth Worker within the school, you'll support students in both classroom and pastoral settings, providing emotional guidance, behaviour support, and mentorship. You'll play a key role in building positive relationships that help students regulate their behaviour and access education.

Key Responsibilities:

Build strong, consistent relationships with students based on trust and respect
Support students in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
Work one-to-one and in small groups to deliver behaviour and wellbeing interventions
Promote engagement, confidence, and motivation in learning
De-escalate challenging behaviour and apply restorative approaches
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to support holistic developmentIdeal Candidate:

Background in youth work, mentoring, social care, or similar fields
Experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or trauma-informed care
Strong interpersonal skills, resilience, and a calm, non-judgemental approach
Ability to act as a positive role model and set clear boundaries
A commitment to helping young people grow emotionally, socially, and academicallyWhat the School Offers:
