A global technology leader is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge bespoke projects for clients worldwide, working in a fast-paced, innovative environment that values creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence.

As the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of the organisation's mechanical design activity — ensuring every project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You'll lead by example, guiding and mentoring engineers while shaping the future of complex mechanical systems that drive the company's success.

Key Responsibilities:

* Plan, manage, and oversee mechanical design projects from concept through to completion

* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cross-functional teams

* Develop detailed mechanical designs and calculations for complex, high-performance systems

* Lead design, prototyping, testing, and validation of new products and design improvements

* Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Value Engineering principles to ensure smooth transition from concept to production

* Collaborate closely with internal teams to align design, manufacturing, and delivery goals

* Partner with suppliers, clients, and industry experts to solve technical challenges and innovate solutions

About You:

You'll be a proven design leader with a track record of delivering complex engineering projects from initial concept through to successful implementation. You're confident using advanced 3D CAD tools such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, or Creo, and you have a strong grasp of modern design and manufacturing techniques.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be a strong advantage:

* Bespoke or special-purpose machinery

* Pick-and-place systems, mechanisms, or moving assemblies

* Pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, belts, or pulleys

A formal qualification (HNC, HND, or Degree) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is desirable.

Why Join:

In return, you'll receive a competitive salary, company pension scheme, and private medical insurance, along with the chance to work on innovative, industry-defining projects within a supportive, forward-thinking global organisation
