Finance Manager

A newly created opportunity has arisen for an experienced and technically strong Finance Manager to join a purpose-led public sector organisation responsible for managing a large and complex pension fund.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead a small team and be responsible for delivering a broad range of financial activities including financial management, planning, statutory accounting, treasury, tax, and reporting. You will also play a key role in advising senior stakeholders on strategic financial matters and contribute to shaping the long-term financial strategy of the organisation.
This is a pivotal role within a high-performing finance function that combines financial stewardship with innovation, insight, and service improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of high-quality financial accounting, planning and reporting, and exchequer services.
- Manage the production of statutory accounts in line with IFRS and public sector accounting codes.
- Provide strategic insight on investment performance, funding, and risk.
- Oversee treasury, tax, and financial compliance functions.
- Present clear, accurate and informative financial reports to senior leaders and external partners.
- Manage and develop a small team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Support the organisation's digital transformation and drive process improvements.
Essential Experience:
- Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with extensive post-qualification experience.
- Strong technical expertise in financial accounting, reporting, and treasury.
- Demonstrated experience working in a public sector or regulated financial environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and report-writing skills.
- A confident leader who can motivate teams and deliver results under pressure.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working with pension funds or investment-focused financial reporting.
- Familiarity with financial systems (e.g., Microsoft Business Central) and data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Track record of contributing to financial transformation or service redesign initiatives.
