Long Term Futures are working with a warm and inclusive primary school in Barnet to appoint an Early Years Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This is a rewarding long-term role suited to someone with Early Years or Key Stage 1 experience, confident in supporting children with additional needs in a nurturing, structured setting. The school has a well-established SEN team and offers excellent support and training to staff working with pupils requiring tailored provision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD
• Use visual timetables, now-and-next boards, and communication strategies
• Support emotional regulation, transitions, and engagement with learning
• Collaborate with SENCo, class teacher and therapists to follow the EHCP
• Encourage independence while supporting social and language development
• Assist with personal care if required (training provided)

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience working with children in EYFS or KS1
• Understanding of autism and sensory needs in early years settings
• A calm, consistent and child-centred approach
• Ability to build trust and routine through structure and positive reinforcement
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication systems (desirable)
