Position: Operations Manager
Location: Birmingham (on-site, with occasional travel to other group locations or meetings)
Salary: circa. £42,000 to £47,000 plus benefits (dependent on experience)

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Operations Manager to join a well-established waste management facility based in Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and co-ordinate all daily site operations including production workflows, transport logistics, and administrative tasks
- Lead and support a diverse team of production supervisors, operators, drivers, and administrative personnel

Role Overview:
Reporting to the Site Lead, you will manage all operational facets of the site, ensuring efficient production, optimised transport scheduling, and effective administration.
Maintaining strict health and safety compliance is essential, including training and enforcing site policies among all team members.
You will manage material flow, co-ordinate driver schedules to maximise fleet use, and keep accurate stock records.
Your leadership will be vital during planned shutdowns or unexpected disruptions, co-ordinating resources to maintain productivity and smooth operations.
You will work closely with internal departments and external partners to resolve issues and support business goals.
What You Will Do:
- Inspire, lead, and develop your team to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant operations
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations for licensed waste sites
- Manage production schedules and allocate resources to meet operational targets
- Oversee inventory management and provide accurate reporting to senior management
- Plan and co-ordinate transport to ensure efficient site traffic flow and cost control
- Act as deputy to the Site Lead when needed, supporting overall site leadership
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance
- Maintain professional communication with internal teams, regulators, and external stakeholders
What You Need to Succeed:
- Demonstrable experience managing operations within the waste management sector, ideally on a licensed waste site
- Relevant certifications such as CPC and WAMITAB are preferred
- Experience leading diverse teams including production staff and drivers
- Strong understanding of operational compliance and safety in waste management
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable with reporting and KPI tracking (experience with SAP or Navision is a plus)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams
- Hands-on leadership approach with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and maintaining high standards
Additional Details:
This role requires your presence on-site five days a week, with occasional travel for meetings and collaborative projects.
