PETA Ltd are looking to source an exceptional CNC Machinist Apprentice for our client in Portsmouth.

Mon - Thurs 08.00 - 17.00
Friday 08.00 - 14.30 (40 hrs)

Your new apprenticeship

As a Machinist Apprentice, you will learn how to programme, set and operate CNC machinery for industrial applications. Use engineering drawings and following standard operating procedures to manufacture precision parts for the Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial sectors.

What training will I be offered?

This position is offered as an apprenticeship and you will be completing a Level 3 Engineering qualification. You will be employed directly by the client but be support every step of the way by PETA.

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA's Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of skills development training in years 2, 3 and 4 will be completed with your employer at your place of work.

You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:

Preparing and using Manual Turning Machines
Preparing and using Manual Milling Machines
Preparing and using CNC Milling Machines
Preparing and using CNC Turning Machines
Using fitting and assembly Techniques.
Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawings using a CAD System
Conducting business improvement activities
You will also complete the Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Technical Knowledge).You will then pass through the foundation Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) delivered in the workplace by your PETA Learning & Development Coach. During this time you will be day released for 24 months to complete a Technical certificate (Level 3) as part of your advanced apprenticeship standard. This will be the Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge).

What will I be responsible for?

As a Machinist Apprentice, your job will entails being able to receive and check materials to ensure that all raw materials are available and correct . You will be using engineering drawings and technical specifications to set and operate the machinery.

This a process driven environment using the proven techniques, including applying work holding arrangements utilising specialist tooling. You will be learn how to programme, set and operate modern CNC equipment as well as set and operate manual mills and lathes. You will plan how to complete milling operations, programming data into CNC Mills and Lathes using chucks, fixtures and vices.

As you gain experience you will take responsibility for adjusting a range of machining parameters to maximise machining outcomes producing products with a high degree of accuracy and finish, ensuring quality standards are achieved. You will use conventional mechanical measuring equipment including Vernier's, Micrometre's to check that work is correct.

Essential Skills

To be considered for the role of Machinist Apprentice, you will have the following skills and qualifications:

3 GCSE's at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential.
Your motivation and drive are the assets that will be best appreciated.
You will possess good communication skills with the ability to communicate with peers and management
You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future developmentDesirable Skills

You will have a good level of dexterity hand skills
