I’m currently recruiting for an Export Operator to join a busy and well-established Export Department. This is a great opportunity for someone with 1-2 years air freight experience who is looking for a role where they can continue to learn, develop, and build their long-term career within freight forwarding.
Road freight experience would certainly be a bonus, but it’s not essential — the team is happy to support training for the right person.
About the Role
This position will see you handling full end-to-end export operations, managing shipments from start to finish. You’ll be working closely with customers, carriers, agents, and transport partners, so strong communication and organisational skills are key.
Key Responsibilities
Shipment Coordination
- Managing all aspects of export shipments from booking to departure
- Arranging collections and coordinating with hauliers, carriers, and warehouses
- Monitoring cargo movements and resolving any issues proactively
Documentation
- Preparing all paperwork, including labels, invoices, and item lists.
- Ensuring documentation is accurate and compliant with customer and carrier requirements
Customs Compliance
- Completing export declarations
- Ensuring compliance with HMRC export regulations and export controls
- Maintaining accurate audit trails and job files
Communication & Coordination
- Acting as the main point of contact for customers, suppliers, and overseas partners
- Providing regular updates on shipment progress and document requirements
- Building strong relationships with airlines, shipping lines, and hauliers
Operational & Financial Administration
- Maintaining accurate job costings and ensuring profitable shipment handling
- Checking and approving supplier/carrier invoices
- Ensuring timely and accurate job file closure
Candidate Requirements
Experience
- 1-2 years’ experience in export operations (air freight essential)
Technical Knowledge
- Export procedures
- Dangerous goods awareness is desirable
- Understanding of customs processes & declarations
Soft Skills
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
- Strong communication and customer-focused approach
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- High attention to detail
Security Requirements
- 5-year checkable work history
- CO training or air cargo security certification (preferred)
