Trials Researcher Office is based in Slough (we are open to exploring flexible working) Are you interested in discovering what interventions improve the learning outcomes of pupils? If so, come and join our Trials Unit and work on research that makes a positive, lasting impact with a leading educational charity.
RCTs are widely used as a medical sciences research tool and seen as the ‘gold standard’ for evaluating the effect of medical treatments.
They are increasingly being used in the education sector to demonstrate the impact of an intervention on pupil outcomes.
As a Trials Researcher, you will assist in the setup of trials, researching what instruments to use, leading on the blueprints and creating the protocols.
You’ll design surveys, develop questionnaires and be part of the team that evaluates the outcomes, writing project reports and other research outputs.
You’ll join a specialist team of Statisticians, Researchers and Trial Managers that cover all aspects of an RCT, including both impact and process evaluations.
You’ll work on research that measures the effectiveness of interventions, such as the impact of additional online tuition to improve GCSE outcomes and whether the way a teacher reads to a class increases children’s comprehension.
Ideally, you’ll be interested in the development of new and innovative approaches to research and analysis and you’ll also have a technical background that covers: - A degree in a related subject or equivalent work experience - Experience of interpreting and reporting statistical analyses - Experience of interpreting and reporting on process evaluation data - And you may have an understanding of methodological issues in trials but not necessarily within the field of education research You’ll be great at this job, if you have: - Good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise your own work and work independently to meet deadlines - Knowledge and use of the principles of project management - Good written and verbal communication skills You may have held similar posts such as a Social Researcher with quantitative background, a Junior Clinical Trials Researcher or a Project Manager within a research organisation.
