Job Description

Job summary: Train and develop by learning various mill operations, inside sales responsibilities, eventually progressing into an outside rod sales role.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Develop thorough understanding of the steelmaking and rod production processes as well as logistics functions. Learn and perform all inside sales functions including order entry and all customer service responsibilities in order to progress into an outside sales role operating out of the Peoria office. Be willing to interact with and travel to customer locations as required. Eventually, travel is 60-70% of job.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or experience: Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and six months to one year related experience and/or training. Will accept five or more years of relevant sales experience in lieu of degree.

Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.

Mathematical skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer skills: Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: None

Other skills and abilities: Must have strong interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to prospect, prioritize, and travel planning abilities.

Other qualifications: Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities. Must possess a business appearance and be comfortable in dealing with customers and executives. Will work out of the Peoria office.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk and hear. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work place is moderate. Candidate will generally be in the office, but will sometimes conduct plant tours and frequently drive to customer locations.
