Job Type: FULL TIME

Salary: Negotiable

Help us get the details right - so we can deliver what matters most.

As a Financial Accountant, you'll play a key role in keeping our finances sound and supporting the smooth running of our services. Your work behind the scenes will help ensure public money is managed with the precision and transparency our residents expect and deserve.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for three days a week and joining a supportive, collaborative team where everyone helps each other succeed.

What you'll be doing:

You'll take the lead on a range of core financial accounting and compliance work, helping us stay on top of everything from balance sheet reconciliations to statutory reporting. You'll produce accurate reports, support audits, prepare working papers and work with the team to close the Council's accounts at year-end.

Day to day, you'll collaborate with colleagues across the finance team to ensure submissions are to a high standard, accurate and on time. You'll also support others by creating user-friendly guidance and training materials.

This role focuses on balance sheet and payroll activities. There are other Principal Accountants in the team covering taxation, banking, collection fund and capital accounting areas, and there'll be opportunities to rotate through those areas - giving you valuable, well-rounded experience.

This is a role where your attention to detail and your ability to explain financial processes clearly will make a real impact. Your work will underpin the delivery of services that residents rely on every day.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.

What you'll bring

You'll be AAT-qualified (or bring equivalent experience) and confident working with general ledgers, balance sheets and financial controls. You'll have strong Excel skills and experience using financial systems to manage and analyse data.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with others, communicates clearly and isn't afraid to challenge inconsistencies or support colleagues through busy periods like year-end. You'll be approachable, methodical and ready to get stuck in - because we know that great financial reporting is a team effort.

Why join us

At RBKC, we're all in - investing in our people, our communities and our future.

You'll join a friendly, knowledgeable Financial Reporting and Controls team who work closely together, share learning and support each other through challenges.

In this role, being all in means more than just knowing the numbers - it's about taking ownership, solving problems and helping others understand what great financial management looks like. You'll have a chance to grow your skills, build a meaningful career and contribute directly to how the Council manages and protects public funds.
