The Role
To support the businesses ambition towards Manufacturing excellence, to be a driving force for continuously reviewing and improving our manufacturing processes. Apply Manufacturing Engineering expertise over a broad range of processes in a pro-active and less re-active manner to ensure reliable, effective, sustainable production. To represent Manufacturing Engineering in a professional manner within multi-discipline teams.


* Service the ANDON process to resolve day-to-day assembly shop floor queries and issues. Raise the standard documentation (ECN, NCR) for the resolution of technical, material or workmanship issues, coordinate repairs and replacements. Drive improvements that will see a sustained reduction in the number of events. Ensure production can continue in a timely manner without compromising safety or quality.

* Produce assembly documentation in VKS visual instruction system. Create and maintain electronic assembly books (graphics embedded with notes and checks) to cover entire process from kitting through to despatch for new and existing products.

* Provide expertise within New Product Introduction (NPI) team. Ensure an effective introduction of new products into production by working closely with both Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing, scrutinise and challenge any assumptions made so that new products are designed for manufacturability and meet all design guideline requirements. Champion best design for manufacture processes at the earliest stages in the design process. Coordinate the smooth transfer from design to production with tooling, assembly processes and documentation.

* Implementation of agile manufacturing methodologies and techniques companywide, be instrumental in introduction of new tooling/jigs/fixtures or assembly aids and operator training needs to ensure the most efficient production methods are employed.

* Propose equipment and practice improvements that would benefit manufacturing efficiency, reliability, consistency and sustainability. Promote standardisation in all manufacturing areas, workstations, tooling, storage and ESD protection. Includes equipment selection, procurement and installation.

* Involvement with the TPM (Total Preventative Maintenance) platform function. Assist with system administration, maintenance tasks, organise specialist contractors and analyse machinery failure data.

* Compile new product assembly Routes the EPR system (Glovia) with operation stages and associated data such as assembly and test timings. Maintain the Routings for existing products

* Actively participate in multi-department teams (QA, Engineering, Purchasing, EHS) where Manufacturing Engineering expertise is required. Projects, Investigations, Reports and Studies.

* Represent UK Manufacturing Engineering on global initiatives to harmonise equipment, processes and standards.

The Candidate

Degree/HND or HNC in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline.

Significant experience in a Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline with a track record of manufacturing process improvements.

Hands-on ability with a “can-do” attitude.

Agile thinking skills, quick learner, logical thinker with good attention to detail.

Highly motivated, self-starter with methodical problem-solving skills. The ability to motivate and influence others.

Keen interest in technical matters.

Verbal and written communication skills to present Manufacturing Engineering views.
