We are now seeking a dedicated and skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team and support high-quality teaching and learning across the school.

Role Purpose

The HLTA will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to deliver high-quality learning experiences for pupils. The role includes planning and delivering small-group and whole-class teaching, supporting behaviour and wellbeing, and contributing to the wider life of the school.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups, and occasionally whole classes, following teacher-prepared plans.

Contribute to the planning and evaluation of lessons, adapting learning materials to meet the needs of pupils.

Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, including those with SEND or behavioural needs.

Use a range of positive behaviour strategies to maintain an inclusive and productive learning environment.

Pupil Support

Provide pastoral and emotional support, helping pupils to build confidence and resilience.

Support pupils with personal care needs if required.

Encourage independence and promote positive attitudes to learning.

Assessment & Record Keeping

Monitor learners' progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.

Keep accurate records of interventions, assessments, and behaviour as required.

Feed back to teachers, parents, and other professionals when appropriate.

Teamwork & Professionalism

Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals.

Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing professional development.

Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and health & safety policies at all times.

Person Specification

Essential

HLTA status or equivalent qualification.

Experience working with primary-aged children, including those with additional needs.

Ability to deliver learning activities independently to groups and whole classes.

Strong communication, organisation, and behaviour-management skills.

A positive, resilient, child-centred approach.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

Experience within a specialist or SEN setting.

Training in Team Teach, Thrive, or other therapeutic/behaviour frameworks.

Knowledge of strategies for supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH needs, or communication difficulties.
