Electrical Site Manager - Data Centre (Freelance)
£300 - £350 per day CIS or Ltd | Harlow | Data Centre Campus | Contract to Feb 2026

Data centres have gone from niche to one of the biggest, most resilient sectors in construction over the last 20 years. They're also a benchmark for technical excellence - if you've delivered in this environment, you're seen as one of the sharpest and hardest-working people in the industry.

In this case, the client already has strong in-house data centre expertise, so they're open to experienced Electrical Site Managers from other critical environments (pharma, hospitals, labs, process) who want to step into or consolidate their experience in data centres on a defined, short-term contract.

The Role - Electrical Site Manager | Harlow DC Campus

You'll be based on a major data centre campus in Harlow, delivering the 3rd data hall for an existing end client. This is a live, operational campus, so you'll be sequencing works carefully with the project team to maintain uptime while driving the install to completion.

This is a short-term contract role running through to February 2026.

Electrical scope covers the full data hall installation, including:

New LV switchboards, panel boards and distribution

*

Sub-mains, containment and cable management (ladder, tray, trunking, basket)

*

Critical power systems - UPS, PDUs, static switches and associated changeover gear

*

Generator interfaces, controls and fuel system connections

*

Small power and general/escape lighting to technical and support spaces

*

Fire alarm, security and access control wiring (1st & 2nd fix)

*

BMS/control cabling and interfaces with mechanical plant

*

Earthing, bonding and support to testing & commissioning of the electrical package

Day-to-day, you'll:

*

Manage and coordinate the electrical installation across the data hall and associated areas

*

Plan labour, materials and specialist subcontractors to hit key milestones to Feb 2026

*

Review drawings, RAMS and method statements; raise RFIs where required

*

Lead quality on site - inspections, snagging, as-built updates and client sign-off

*

Support testing, commissioning and IST phases alongside the PM and specialists

*

Maintain high H&S standards in a live, critical environment

*

Report progress weekly to the PM and QS, including look-aheads and risk/issue updates

What You'll Need

You don't need previous data centre experience, but you do need strong electrical and critical project experience:

*

Proven experience as an Electrical Site Manager on large M&E or critical projects
- Data centres, pharma, hospitals, labs, process or similar environments

*

Time-served electrician plus HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical / Building Services (desired)

*

SMSTS

*

ECS / CSCS (supervisor/manager level ideal)

*

First Aid (3 day)

*

Strong understanding of LV distribution, containment and critical power systems

*

Confident dealing with main contractors, consultants and end clients on a live site

*

Full UK driving licence
