Quality and Ripening Controller / Team Leader
Location: Dartford
Pay Rate: £14.48 per hour (Day Shift) | £18.10 per hour (Overtime)
Shift Pattern: Monday to Sunday (rota-based) | Day shift: 6:00am - 2:00pm (subject to change)
Premier Recruitment Group are delighted to be working in partnership with a rapidly growing fresh produce company. We are currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality and Ripening Controller / Team Leader to join their day shift team, overseeing production and packaging operations.
This role is key to ensuring compliance with customer specifications, food safety regulations, and company quality standards, with a particular focus on flow wrap packaging and fresh produce intake (fresh fruit).
Key Responsibilities- Conduct quality checks on incoming fresh produce, assessing ripeness, weight, defects, and compliance with customer/retailer standards, making formal decisions
- Hands-on experience with flow wrap machines and fresh produce packaging lines
- Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, BRC, and company SOPs
- Carry out line clearance and maintain full documentation for start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns
- Verify packaging materials (films, labels, trays, cartons) before and during production
- Work closely with production and technical teams to resolve issues and continuously improve quality standards
- Maintain accurate batch records, intake reports, and QA logs
- Train and support line operators and intake staff on quality, hygiene, and defect detection
Requirements:
- Ability to make informed decisions and solve problems proactively
- Previous experience leading a team within a food production or manufacturing environment
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Experience in food production and quality control
