Environmental Consultant

Our client is looking to recruit an Environmental Consultant to join their team. You will be required to work on technical projects within a team of nuclear specialists, with engineering support from other disciplines. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop technical and project skills through targeted training and continual professional development. 



• Degree or Masters qualified in an environmental or scientific technical discipline

Essential Criteria

• An understanding of the behaviour of contaminants in the environment

• An understanding of atmospheric, aquatic and terrestrial environmental processes

• Experience of data handling, interpretation and technical writing

• Experience of producing environmental assessment related documentation

• Good communication and presentation skills.

• Ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Desirable Criteria

• Ideally, possesses a sufficient level of relevant work experience (gained from working directly for a nuclear site license company, a consultancy or a regulator)

• An understanding of the legislative framework relating to nuclear materials and nuclear licensed sites

• An understanding of radioactivity and its behaviour in the environment

• An understanding of radioactive waste management issues

• Is looking to pursue Chartership with an appropriate professional body, e.g. IEMA, IES, SRP

Our clients Nuclear Environment and Radioactive Waste Management Consultants are responsible for providing specialist advice during the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and for the production of all environmental and waste management documentation required under Site License Conditions and the Environmental Permit.

The successful applicant will be responsible for provision of support to a range of projects. Duties will include:

• The delivery of technical reports (e.g. on radioactively contaminated land, environmental impact assessment, dose assessment, application of the waste management hierarchy in engineering project documentation, best available technique assessments, integrated environmental assessment, radioactive waste management, environmental monitoring). 

• Field work technical support (e.g. radiological monitoring, sampling, groundwater monitoring, clerk of works).

The Individual
Our client is looking for an individual who is prepared to undertake a diverse range of tasks and is keen to learn new skills as required. The individual must be computer literate and competent in using MS Word and MS Excel in addition to being articulate and possessing good verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information

• Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to client’s offices may also be required.
