Are you an educator who understands that progress isn't always reflected in grades or test results, but sometimes in growing trust, improved resilience, and small but meaningful steps forward?

We are currently looking for committed tutors in the Thurrock area who want their work to have a genuine and lasting impact, not just fill a timetable.

About the Role

Most of the students we support are secondary-aged learners with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and other complex challenges. Many have struggled within mainstream education and require patient, consistent support to help them reconnect with learning.

This role is about far more than delivering lessons. It involves creating a stable and supportive learning environment where students feel safe enough to engage and progress.

Your work will focus on:

Building positive, professional relationships with students

Providing structured and calm learning sessions

Supporting both academic development and emotional regulation

Being a reliable and consistent presence in a young person's routine

Availability Requirements

To provide the consistency our students need, tutors should be able to commit to:

A minimum of 10-15 hours per week

Core hours typically between 8:30am and 3:30pm

Availability from Monday to Friday

Regular attendance and reliability are extremely important, as many students benefit greatly from routine and familiar support.

Responsibilities Beyond Teaching

Communication and professionalism are essential parts of this role.

Tutors are expected to:

Keep accurate attendance records

Monitor and document both academic and emotional progress

Provide updates that can be shared with schools and other professionals

Maintain clear and organised records in line with safeguarding expectations

The information you provide may contribute to EHCP reviews, education planning, and discussions with external agencies, so careful reporting is important.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome tutors with experience in areas such as:

Mainstream or specialist schools

Alternative provision settings

Private tuition

Youth work or pastoral support roles

Key qualities we value include:

Effective behaviour management delivered with empathy and understanding

Experience supporting learners with SEMH or additional needs

Strong written and verbal communication skills

The ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure

Reliability, patience, and emotional resilience

Understanding Progress

Success in this role doesn't always look traditional.

Sometimes progress means:

A student remaining engaged throughout an entire session

Completing work without frustration or escalation

Gradually rebuilding trust with a supportive adult

If you recognise these moments as meaningful achievements, this role may be a great fit for you.
