Job Specification: Electrical Testing & Inspection Engineer

Location & Coverage

Based in Northampton with travel required across the South Coast of England (Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Brighton, etc.)

Field-based role with occasional office visits for reporting and team meetings

Purpose of Role

To carry out electrical testing, inspection, and certification of installations across commercial, industrial, and domestic sites, ensuring compliance with current regulations and delivering high-quality service to clients.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct Periodic Inspection Reports (PIRs) and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

* Perform Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) where required

* Carry out remedial works following inspections

* Ensure compliance with BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and other relevant standards

* Provide clear, accurate documentation and certification

* Liaise with clients and site managers to explain findings and recommendations

* Maintain tools, equipment, and calibration records

* Work independently and manage workload across multiple sites

* Adhere to company health & safety policies and industry best practices

Qualifications & Experience

* NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent

* City & Guilds 2391 (Testing & Inspection) or 2394/2395

* Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) qualification

* Proven experience in electrical testing and inspection (minimum 3 years preferred)

* Full UK driving licence

* Experience working across commercial, industrial, and domestic environments

* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reporting

* Good communication skills with ability to explain technical issues clearly

* Self-motivated with strong organisational skills

* Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
