Accounts Assistant

Job Description
We’re supporting a growing, multi-entity organisation in Manchester who are seeking a meticulous and proactive Accounts Assistant to join their finance team on a permanent basis. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records across a group of nine companies, with a strong focus on accounts payable, supplier management, bank reconciliation, and supporting wider month-end processes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to further develop within a dynamic finance function while contributing to smooth and compliant financial operations.
You’ll be working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Purchase Processing
- Overseeing the purchase order process and controls
- Matching purchase orders to invoices
- Accurate allocation of site-related costs
- Processing supplier invoices using Xero, WorkflowMax, Dext, and ApprovalMax
Payments
- Completing twice-monthly supplier payment runs
- Managing DLA legal float top-ups and controls
- Handling intercompany loan transfers
- Distributing group VAT receipts/liabilities
- Processing base and contingent rent payments
- Performing ad-hoc payment tasks
Banking & Reconciliations
- Performing daily bank reconciliations
- Supporting accurate balance sheet reconciliation and asset/liability recording
Month-End & Management Accounts
- Assisting with the timely preparation of monthly management accounts
- Closing AP ledgers and reconciling cashbooks
Expenses & Credit Control
- Verifying and recording staff expenses and credit card expenditure
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls
Cashflow Forecasting
- Maintaining the rolling 13-week cashflow forecast
Rent Payments & Site Costing
- Supporting rent-related calculations
- Assisting with annual rent reviews and partner profit certificate preparation
Tax Compliance
- Supporting VAT return preparation
- Completing CIS returns
- Completing CT61 submissions
Project Cost Tracking
- Monitoring and reporting on the financial progress of site development projects
Audit Support
- Assisting internal and external audit preparation
Ad-Hoc Duties
- Producing financial reports and analysis
- Supporting general accounting and administrative tasks
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Experience as an Accounts Assistant or in a similar finance role
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency with Xero and related applications (WorkflowMax, Dext, ApprovalMax)
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- High numerical accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Excellent organisational and time-management ability
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- AAT qualification (desirable)
