Individual Needs Assistant – Early Years

We are currently seeking a dedicated Individual Needs Assistant (INA) to support a pupil in the Early Years setting with their physical development, learning needs, and day-to-day care. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusion and making a meaningful difference in a child’s educational journey.

About the Role

As an INA, you will work closely with the pupil, teaching staff, and external professionals to ensure the child’s safety, well-being, and access to education. You will play a vital role in promoting independence, supporting learning through play, and providing tailored assistance in line with the pupil’s individual plans.

Key Responsibilities

Care & Support

  • Assist with personal care routines, including dressing and toileting.
  • Provide physical support, ensuring safe moving and handling in line with health and safety guidance.
  • Support mobility and encourage independence, including using specialist equipment when required.

Learning Support

  • Support learning through play and adapted activities designed by the teaching team.
  • Implement educational healthcare plans and physiotherapy programmes in collaboration with external agencies.
  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small-group support to help the pupil access learning effectively.
  • Encourage active engagement in teacher-led activities.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to share observations and track progress.
  • Contribute to individual education plans and care plans.
  • Adapt communication methods to meet the pupil’s specific needs.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with classroom organisation.
  • Prepare and maintain learning and care resources.
  • Support the use of ICT within learning activities.
  • Work under the direction and guidance of the class teacher.
