What we do:

The Corporate Communications function is part of the Communications & Outreach Group, and ensures that consistent messages are being delivered in a proactive manner to the Bank's key audiences. The function focuses on three core areas: media relations, executive communications and essential messaging. The external communications team serves as the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's central contact for the media and the public. The team supports engagement across the range of the Bank's priorities, manages and develops media opportunities, leverages public engagements by senior executives, and works with the internal communications team to create and distribute content across channels.

Your role as a Corporate Communications Associate:

- You will join a team of media relations, editorial, and communications practitioners, and will focus on supporting the Bank's senior leaders and subject matter experts and products around economic research. In addition, you will:
- Help develop strategic communication programs and tools, and other ad-hoc projects related to Bank activities
- Develop a deep knowledge of the Bank's economic research and use that knowledge to support the Bank's priorities
- Collaborate with senior leadership, along with the Director of External Communications, and subject matter experts in developing Bank communications
- Engage constructively with multiple electronic, print, and broadcast media outlets (including new and traditional media, and social networking sites)
- Monitor current events and market conditions to anticipate potential opportunities and reactive events, and join rotation in assembling Bank's daily news distribution and staffing activities
- Support Bank efforts to improve public understanding of the Federal Reserve`s actions, particularly in areas in which the Bank plays a unique role
- Work with the team and others in advance of and during public speaking engagements for the President and senior officials
- Handle inquiries from reporters and arrange staff interviews, working collaboratively across the team

What we are looking for:

- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Business, Economics, Journalism, Political Science, or related field
- Five years of experience in public affairs, communications, or journalism, involving major media outlets
- Experience interacting and building relationships with journalists to provide clear and accurate written and spoken information about the Bank's policies and actions
- Demonstrated influencing capabilities with the ability to challenge the status quo while providing creative solutions
- Experience working with and supporting senior principals of a major organization, including the ability to intervene proactively and provide support at conferences and media events, handle on-scene logistics, and anticipate participant needs
- Desire to join a mission-driven organization and to work collaboratively across a variety of business areas and levels to achieve favorable outcomes
- Experience using communications technology, e.g., blogs, social media and other technology tools related to the distribution of information on behalf of the group
