COMPANY: ANGELA FAYE BROWN & ASSOCIATES, PLLC

Job Description

THIS JOB IS LOCATED IN AUSTIN, TEXAS. A RELOCATION STIPEND WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RIGHT CANDIDATE.

We're a small law firm with big ideas. Our driving philosophy is that "children deserve healthy access to both their parents," which is why we spend each day working toward making our parents better parents and protecting their children from the bad behaviors of the other parent via innovative visitation plans. Every part of our practice -- how we bill, how we communicate, how we manage tasks -- focuses on that mission. That means we are not looking for employees; we're looking for team members who can embrace our mission and show that belief every day to clients. We are a small firm and we are looking for team members that will be committed to the firm's growth and expansion in the future.

Our firm works with a diverse cross section of our community that tend to have significant culture specific issues. As such, we are looking for people with a demonstrated commitment to serving women and minority communities.

We are looking for an attorney with at least 3 years of family law experience. This attorney will carry a reasonably sized caseload, with the expectation that he or she will provide service that surprises. We expect our attorneys to focus on the mission to develop stronger families by empowering clients to make healthy choices. That is almost impossible with attorneys on the verge of burnout. We need you happy -- we like you happy -- and we'll do our darnedest to help you develop a healthy work-life balance.

Our new associates should have these qualifications:
1. Active member with the Texas State Bar
2. Minimum of 3 years of family law experience
3. Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation
4. Has sat first chair in a family law hearing

We need someone who can perform the following activities on a daily basis:
1. Act as first point of contact with retained clients
2. Proactively and efficiently manage cases from beginning to end
3. Handle customer care, ensuring clients are up-to-date on the status of their case and feel informed about their options
4. Thoroughly document case progress through defined processes, as well as help develop those process in response to customer needs
5. Review, organize, and analyze client documents and document production
6. Review staff-generated pleadings and other office documents
7. Meet with supervising attorneys to regularly share information and define strategy
8. Use programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Clio, and Google Apps to communicate and report
9. Sit first chair on family law hearings and trials
10. Participate in marketing activities to promote law firm
11. Handle initial consults
12. Provide support and guidance for younger associates and paralegals
13. Manage and empower your law clerk to learn about family law and assist you with your cases

Skills and experience are required, appreciated, and valued, but personality, character, intelligence, and integrity will be paramount considerations. High-maintenance, humorless, or self-important individuals will not succeed in this position and should not apply. You should already be a self-starter, quick learner, and stay cool under pressure. You must be compassionate toward our clients in the office and a beast in the courtroom. You must be collegial and fun, but industrious. Coping skills are a must: our cases/clients can be intense. The ideal applicant has a background in family law, working with children, and/or working with parents. Above all else, you must have a demonstrated ability to talk people off of the ledge. We strive to only go to court over serious issues for our clients.
It would be extra awesome if you were: admitted to practice law in any state adjoining Texas, fluent in Spanish, a networking machine, and/or someone who really gets into creating processes for a law firm.

This job would be perfect for a solo looking for a place to call home or a parent ready to re-enter the workforce. If you want more than just a paycheck, you have the heart of a teacher, and the desire to empower others in difficult spots (and can start soon!), please apply

Non-smoker. Background checks will be conducted. References will be contacted.
1. Compensation: DOE,
2. Recognized work-life balance
3. Paid holidays and Time Off
4. Health Insurance
