Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, Inc benefits, OTE

Regulatory compliance
  • Ensure the home complies with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards, with particular focus on safeguarding, leadership, and outcomes.
  • Maintain Ofsted registration, ensuring that the Statement of Purpose reflects the home’s provision, particularly the solo provision and EBD needs.
  • Prepare and respond to Ofsted inspections, ensuring all necessary documents and action plans are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all statutory documentation, notifications, and records (e.g. Reg 45 reports, Annex A) are completed accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure readiness for Reg 44 visits.
2. Leadership & operational management
  • Provide trauma-informed leadership to ensure the home operates in a way that provides stability, safety, and emotional support for children with complex needs.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all children while creating a nurturing and therapeutic environment.
  • Lead by example, setting high standards of professional conduct and accountability across the team, and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
3. Safeguarding & behaviour management
  • Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), maintaining oversight of all safeguarding matters and taking prompt action to address any concerns.
  • Lead and manage the development of individual risk assessments and behaviour support plans, ensuring they are appropriate and regularly reviewed.
  • Foster a safeguarding culture that promotes vigilance, relational care, and consistent implementation of de-escalation and regulatory practices.
  • Ensure all staff are trained in de-escalation techniques, safe physical intervention, and safeguarding procedures, promoting the ethical and legal use of interventions.
4. Therapeutic & individualised care
  • Oversee the development of individualised care plans that support emotional regulation, growth, and therapeutic progress for children with EBD.
  • Ensure each child’s voice is central to all care planning, decisions, and daily life within the home.
  • Foster a nurturing and boundary-based approach that supports trust-building, regulation, and positive behavioural change.
5. Team management & staff development
  • Recruit, supervise, and retain a skilled and stable team to support children’s emotional and behavioural needs in a solo provision.
  • Provide reflective supervision and regular staff training, ensuring that the team’s practice aligns with trauma-informed care, safeguarding, and emotional regulation.
  • Monitor staff wellbeing, resilience, and professional development, promoting a culture of self-care, peer support, and psychological safety.
  • Lead weekly team meetings to promote reflective practice and discuss the emotional and practical challenges of working with EBD children
6. Multi-agency working
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with external agencies, including placing authorities, CAMHS, education providers, social workers, and families.
  • Ensure integration of services, ensuring the child’s best interests are at the heart of all care planning and decision-making.
  • Attend and contribute effectively to professional reviews, CLA meetings, and safeguarding strategy meetings, advocating for the child’s voice.
7. Environment & safety
  • Ensure that the home environment is physically and emotionally safe, clean, and well-maintained, with a focus on reducing risk and promoting emotional regulation.
  • Implement consistent health & safety checks, conduct fire drills, and ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.
  • Promote a structured daily routine that feels homely and supports children in developing emotional and behavioural stability.
8. Quality assurance & improvement
  • Conduct regular internal audits, evaluations, and Regulation 45 reports, working closely with the Responsible Individual to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Address any concerns regarding underperformance or care issues, ensuring clear action plans and feedback mechanisms are in place.
  • Embed a culture of continuous learning, using team feedback, training, and reflective practice to maintain high standards of care.
9. Crisis management & emotional resilience
  • Lead with emotional resilience, staying calm and confident in high-stress situations involving children with complex emotional needs.
  • Ensure the safe management of crisis behaviour in accordance with training, and support the team in crisis interventions.
  • Conduct debriefing sessions and incident reviews, promoting a culture of learning from challenging events and supporting staff well-being.
10. Promoting positive outcomes
  • Monitor children’s progress and outcomes in all areas, including education, emotional growth, and independent living.
  • Advocate for the rights of children, ensuring their voice is central in all decisions and promoting positive, meaningful outcomes in their care.
  • Ensure children experience a positive and supportive living environment that fosters long-term success and well-being.
