Don't panic, you aren't expected to know everything about everything, but you WILL need plenty of experience and be required to pick things up as you go along!
You'll already be experienced in either Unix or Microsoft stack, and you'll probably have some qualifications like ITIL or MCSE. And you'll need a broad range of infrastructure knowledge spanning areas like telephony, networking, various integration and database platforms, security, operating systems, cloud technology, data centres and so on.
This role will be two-fold - you'll be most senior person on the team for escalations, plus you'll lead on all the project work. Most companies have put a lot of their projects on hold due to our current economic downturn, but here the project pipeline is full to overflowing! You certainly won't be bored - never has the phrase “no two days are the same” been more relevant than in this role! But busy in this case doesn't mean over-worked.
