Shorterm group are currently looking for a manufacturing engineer to join our aircraft landing gear MRO company based in Hayes. The RoleReporting to the Technical Process Manager, you will provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support across production operations. You'll focus on developing and improving work instructions, tooling documentation, process controls, and maintenance coordination - while driving continuous improvement across the shop floor.This is a varied role combining office-based engineering work with significant time spent in the production environment.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain manufacturing work instructions and tooling documentationDefine critical checks and inspection regimes based on tooling and process designsSupport production teams in resolving defects and non-conformitiesLead and support structured problem-solving activities (5 Whys, 8D, root cause analysis)Analyse production data including downtime, cycle times, OEE, waste and machine availabilityDrive continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as Pareto analysis and DMAICIdentify process waste and implement efficiency improvementsConduct time and motion studies, workflow analysis, line balancing and capacity analysisCoordinate equipment maintenance and repair activitiesDevelop and maintain tooling and equipment master data within SAP / ERP systemsSupport automation initiatives to improve consistency, reduce cycle times and optimise processesEnsure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety standardsExperienceMinimum 1-2 years experience. Proven track record in delivering measurable process improvementsHands-on experience using structured problem-solving methodsExperience applying Lean tools such as Pareto analysis, DMAIC and OEEExperience within metal component processing or surface finishing (aerospace highly desirable)Technical SkillsAbility to read engineering drawings and understand mechanical manufacturing processesExperience creating detailed manufacturing work instructionsStrong analytical mindset with KPI-driven decision makingCAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)Good understanding of ERP/MRP systems (SAP advantageous)Confident using digital tools to improve data collection and process performanceQualificationsMinimum HND in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)Lean / Continuous Improvement or Statistical Process Control training advantageousPersonal AttributesStrong communicator - able to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical teamsCollaborative team player comfortable working in a matrix environmentAnalytical, organised and solutions-focusedAble to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing settingIf you feel your are suitable please apply now or contact Callum Withey at Shorterm group for more information.
