For a role based in Harlow, a Band 6 Registered General Nurse is required to work in the role of a Health Advisor for a NHS Trust on a full time basis.

The Nurse will participate and contribute in the provision of a high quality, comprehensive and pro-active Staff Health and Wellbeing service for Trust employees and outside contracts. The Occupational Health remit will cover sickness absence case management, pre-employment screening, vaccinations, venepuncture and health promotion.

The postholder will be required to liaise with and advise managers on all policies and procedures relating to Staff Health and wellbeing.

Salary: 28,080 - 36,644

Requirement for this role are;

* Current NMC registration or other professional body

* Occupational health degree/diploma

* Knowledge of immunisation programmes and up to date vaccination training

* Venepuncture

* A wide understanding of workplace health issues.

* Working knowledge of confidentiality, awareness of Freedom of Information Act and Equality Act 2010

* Experience of working in NHS Occupational Health Department

* Experience of audit and clinical/service governance requirements.

* Good clinical skills

* Excellent interpersonal skills

* Excellent organisational skills

* Computer literate

* Experience of the OPAS (occupational health database) or willingness to learn

* Presentation skills

* Able to travel to other sites

Main Duties/Responsibilities

* To undertake a range of SHAW assessments in line with Trust/departmental standard operating procedures, NICE and NMC Guidelines e.g. pre-employment screening, vaccination and infectious diseases screening and health surveillance.

* To manage cases of blood/body fluids contamination incidents as they occur and to work proactively with nurse managers and infection control to reduce these as far as is possible and administer an appropriate vaccination following incident

* To able to cover a pre-employment clinic, venepuncture or immunisation clinic where needed

* Be responsible for the assessment, planning g and implementation of care of a defined caseload. Liaise with all other appropriate agencies and provide specialist occupation health advice to staff at all levels within the trust on all aspect i.e. long term sickness, suitability for rehabilitation or redeployment

* Responsible for ensuring accurate records/documentation are kept in line with departmental standard operating procedure, NMC and Trust policies.

* To participate in audit activity where appropriate and continuously look for ways of improving the service or the care that you give to clients

* To work together with Band 5 in planning , organising and deliver health promotion initiatives on a range of topics relevant to ‘healthy workplaces’ in line with National health promotion campaigns e.g. No Smoking Day, Blood pressure week, Healthy Eating Week.

* To engage with key stakeholders within the organisation in the context of healthy workplaces

* Arranging a yearly staff flu campaign, including ordering and distribution of flu vaccines, liaising with Pharmacy as appropriate. Providing training session for administrating a flu vaccination for designated flu champions.

* Plan, organise and undertake training on Trust induction days.

* Participate in the Trust PRDP process to ensure that you receive and provide constructive feedback to enhance personal skill set and to promote professional development of all staff within department.

* Responsible for liaising with clinical nurse facilitators to ensure that pre-employment screening for overseas adaptation nurses are conducted, as required.

The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which may entail travel and working at different locations.
