They are looking for an Engineering Instructor/Technician to undertake technician duties to assist lecturers and assessors in the maintenance and delivery of training programmes. This includes maintaining first‑class, industry‑standard workshop facilities, promoting high standards of behaviour, and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety best practice at all times. They will also be able to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment, including providing teaching cover during staff absence within engineering and motor vehicle.
They are a college that promotes staff progression and development and will consider applicants with strong industry experience. Candidates do not need to be qualified teachers to work in FE - they will provide full training. Whether the applicant is new to teaching or experienced in the engineering sector, they would be keen to hear from them.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructor
- Assist the teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of theory and practical activities.
- Ensure that the instructing is based on current best available practice and is consistent with a high standard reflective of the work environment.
- Provide teaching cover for staff absence or during planned industrial placement days.
- Provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Support the teaching team by providing focussed activities for small groups of learners in theory and practical sessions.
- Assist/deliver practical sessions by working with groups of students to enable them to achieve the given task.
- Plan and deliver lively and interactive instruction and assessment activities to a high standard on a range of programmes.
- Support the teaching team to create high quality resources.
- Participate in range of promotional activities including open evenings, taster days, school events to promote engineering and motor vehicle to a range of stakeholders including students, parents, employers and schools.
- Proactively seek opportunities to support the department and college to further enhance delivery and increase learner numbers.
- Ensure all noticeboards are kept up to date with relevant and interesting information and refreshed regularly.
- Work with other technicians in engineering, motor vehicle and science to ensure that departments are standardised and supported.
Technician
- Responsible for the storage, stock control and maintenance of tools, materials and equipment.
- Implement and maintain maintenance schedules for all department equipment in line with manufacture guidelines
- Prepare and clear away any material apparatus, equipment and materials ensuring correct storage and correct inventory records maintained
- Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.
- Act as the department Health & Safety representative at cross college meetings.
- Develop and operate a recording and booking system for equipment and materials/consumables and be responsible for both stock control and security of these items.
- Maintain an inventory for equipment in accordance with financial procedures and regulations.
- Act as technician support for teaching staff including demonstration where necessary. Prepare materials for staff in advance of set work.
- Liaise with other staff to assist with the implementation of departmental systems and initiatives. Take part in staff development and the ongoing updating of technical skills
- Run taster days/workshops with external parties. Liaise with staff to assist with the implementation of school systems and activities.
- Participate in the College's appraisal process and to undertake any training that may be appropriate.
- Continue to update technical skills.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as and when required.
