Job Description

The Position

Arrowhead is seeking a Scientist to join our growing Biology Department at our new San Diego site. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize, contribute and advance the ideal candidate's laboratory skills in a progressive, state-of-the-art and diverse facility.


  • Develop and perform in vitro cell based and ex vivo assays
  • Analyze, provide insight and technical expertise required for project progression and report data to the project team in a timely manner
  • Read and apply relevant scientific literature to projects to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Perform gene expression and functional analysis by various methods
  • Designing, planning, and performing cellular experiments
  • Contribute to the identification and development of new assays to support target identification and validation
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab and perform critical experiments


  • BS (6+ years) or MS (2+ years) and prior research experience in biotech or pharmaceutical companies in cell-based assay development in the context of drug discovery
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture preferably in neuroscience
  • Proficiency in basic cell and molecular biology techniques, with emphasis on RNA isolation, qPCR, transfection, cell-based assays, ELISA, and Western blotting
  • Excellent record keeping, ability to follow precise steps in a protocol, able to independently analyze data, troubleshoot, and solve problems
  • Experience with standard Windows, Microsoft Office including Excel, and GraphPad Prism
  • Competent in standard chemical calculations to accurately prepare laboratory solutions and calculate dilutions for screening
  • Ability to work independently and to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Demonstrated innovation, creativity and persistence in problem solving
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Contribute to team goals in a collaborative environment, self-motivated team player with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, matrixed environment


  • Experience in small rodent handling and in vivo techniques
